Sydney Contemporary Marks Its 10th Edition at Carriageworks

Sydney Contemporary will bring more than 100 galleries and over 500 artists to Carriageworks from 3 to 6 September 2026 for its tenth edition.

Sydney Contemporary will hold its tenth edition at Carriageworks from 3 to 6 September 2026. The fair says more than 100 galleries from nine countries and over 500 artists will take part, bringing painting, sculpture, photography, ceramics and other contemporary practices together in Sydney.

Founded in 2013, the fair has welcomed 250,000 visitors and generated more than AUD 100 million in art sales across its first nine editions, according to the organiser. The 2026 programme is intended for established collectors and first-time buyers, with works offered across different price levels.

The anniversary edition extends beyond the gallery stands. Sydney Contemporary is presenting public installations at Sydney Fish Market and Pier Pavilion in Barangaroo, followed by 14 large-scale installations inside the fair. The programme also includes artist booth talks, panel discussions, performances, guided tours, workshops and the Art + Dine series at venues across the city.

Among the outdoor projects are a work by Reko Rennie at Sydney Fish Market, free to visit until 13 September, and an animated installation by Joan Ross at Pier Pavilion, available until 6 September. The installations programme is curated by José Da Silva, director of UNSW Galleries.

Tickets for the fair are on sale online. Carriageworks will host general admission from Thursday to Sunday, while selected passes also include preview access, Art Night and the Collector Lounge. The tenth edition combines the commercial fair with free public projects and a city-wide programme.

Why it matters

The tenth edition is a major gathering for the Australasian art market and extends its reach through free public commissions, talks and events beyond the gallery stands.
