Independent 20th Century Returns to Breuer with Expanded Lineup

The Independent 20th Century art fair is set to take place at the Breuer building from 24 to 27 September 2026, featuring a 75% increase in size and presenting works by over 130 artists through approximately 57 exhibitors.

The Independent 20th Century art fair will be held at the Breuer building, now operated by Sotheby’s, from 24 to 27 September 2026. This edition is notable for its significant expansion, with the fair growing by about 75% compared to previous years. Around 57 exhibitors are expected to participate, showcasing works from more than 130 artists.

Among the presentations, Lévy Gorvy Dayan will focus on works by Yves Klein from the early 1960s. Their booth will include Klein’s Blue Rain installation and several Cosmogonies paintings, which are known for incorporating natural elements such as rain and wind.

The fair will also highlight the artistic connection between Klein and Lucio Fontana. Both artists are recognised for their engagement with light, nature, and the exploration of physical space beyond traditional painting. Their mutual admiration and shared interest in pushing artistic boundaries are reflected in the works on view.

The Breuer building’s role as the new venue for the fair marks a milestone in its development. Nearly two decades ago, the organisation began with a small team and limited resources, staging exhibitions in a 40,000 square foot space. This combination of ambition and resourcefulness has contributed to the fair’s evolution.

For collectors and art enthusiasts, the expanded Independent 20th Century fair offers an opportunity to engage with a diverse range of 20th-century artworks and innovative presentations, reinforcing its place in the art calendar.

Why it matters

The growth of Independent 20th Century at the Breuer building demonstrates increased interest in 20th-century art. With more exhibitors and artists, the fair provides a broader platform for significant works and artistic dialogues that continue to shape the contemporary art landscape.
