The global art market expanded by 4% year-on-year to reach an estimated USD 59.6 billion, driven notably by a 9% rise in public auction sales, according to the latest Art Basel and UBS report.

The global art market grew by 4% year-on-year, reaching an estimated USD 59.6 billion after two challenging years, according to the Art Basel and UBS Global Art Market Report 2026 published on 30 September 2026.

Public auction sales recorded the largest increase, rising by 9% to USD 20.7 billion. This growth was attributed to several record prices achieved at the high end of the market. When combining public and private sales at auction houses, the total increased by 6% to USD 24.8 billion.

The dealer sector also experienced growth, with a 2% rise globally to an estimated USD 34.8 billion. Both overseas and local events contributed equally to this expansion, and mid-sized dealers saw the largest increases in the share of art fair sales.

Regionally, the United States maintained its position as the world’s leading art market, accounting for 44% of global sales by value, up 1% from the previous year. China remained the third-largest market with a 14% share, led by auction sales in the largely domestically focused Mainland China market.

France, the fourth-largest art market globally and the largest in the European Union, increased its share by 1% to 8%. These shifts reflect ongoing recalibration in the global art market landscape.

The report highlights a gradual recovery and adjustment in the art market, with both auction houses and dealers contributing to the positive momentum. The balance between local and international events, as well as the role of mid-sized dealers, are notable factors shaping current trends.
